The Studio's Method

How the studio approaches each piece

Initial Assessment

Every piece is assessed before work begins. The studio notes condition, identifies the appropriate programme, and discusses scope and price with the owner before proceeding.

Considered Bench Work

Work is carried out at the bench in unhurried sequence. The studio does not rush to meet volume targets. Each programme's steps are followed in full, without shortcuts.

Closure and Return

Work concludes with quality confirmation, documentation where specified, and notification to the owner. Collection is arranged at the owner's convenience.

Daily-wear quartz watch being serviced

Programme 01

Quartz Daily-Wear Service

RM 220 · 5–7 working days

A bench programme for quartz wristwatches that have served their owners over many years and have begun to show the small irregularities of age. The work covers battery replacement, module inspection, replacement of the quartz module with a calibre-appropriate reference where required, caseback gasket renewal, basic pressure check on supported designs, external case cleaning, and bracelet pin inspection.

The service is intended for owners whose daily-wear quartz pieces are valued for their everyday reliability and who wish to maintain that reliability without considering replacement of the piece itself.

  • Battery replacement and module inspection
  • Quartz module replacement (calibre-matched) where needed
  • Caseback gasket renewal
  • Basic pressure check on supported designs
  • External case cleaning and bracelet pin inspection

Process Steps

1Enquiry received and programme confirmed
2Piece received, reference number issued, stored securely

Programme 02

Vintage Movement Conservation

RM 1,580 · 2–4 weeks

A specialist bench programme dedicated to vintage wristwatch movements where conservation of original character takes priority. The work covers careful disassembly preserving original screws and finishes, multi-stage cleaning with appropriate solvents, inspection of pivots, jewels, and the mainspring barrel, replacement of fatigued components using period-appropriate references where possible, lubrication with calibre-appropriate oils, reassembly with multi-position timing, and a closing report describing every choice made during the work.

The studio favours conservation over modernisation throughout. Where components must be replaced, every effort is made to identify period-appropriate references rather than contemporary equivalents that would alter the movement's original character.

  • Careful disassembly preserving original screws and surface finishes
  • Multi-stage cleaning with calibre-appropriate solvents
  • Pivot, jewel, and mainspring barrel inspection
  • Period-appropriate component references sourced where needed
  • Multi-position timing confirmation after reassembly
  • Written closure report — every decision documented

Process Steps

1Enquiry and initial discussion of piece's history and condition
2Piece received; scope and price confirmed before work begins
3Disassembly and component assessment; owner consulted if additional scope required
4Cleaning, sourcing, lubrication, and reassembly
5Multi-position timing confirmation
6Written report completed and issued with the piece at collection

Programme 03

Climate Storage Conversation

RM 140 · Single appointment · ~45 minutes

An informational session in which an owner discusses with the studio the climate considerations that affect long-term watch storage in tropical conditions. Topics include humidity buffers, the role of silica indicators in storage boxes, the implications of air conditioning cycles on stored pieces, and the small steps owners can take to reduce condensation risk on water-resistant cases stored unworn.

The session is informational only. The studio does not sell storage equipment and refers owners to independent suppliers where helpful. This independence allows the guidance to remain unconflicted and practical rather than sales-oriented.

  • Humidity buffer options explained for Penang conditions
  • Silica indicator usage and replacement guidance
  • Air conditioning cycle implications for stored pieces
  • Condensation risk reduction for unworn water-resistant cases
  • Independent supplier referrals where relevant

Process Steps

1Enquiry received; appointment arranged at a mutually suitable time
2Owner describes current storage situation and any concerns
3Studio walks through climate considerations relevant to owner's context
4Practical steps discussed; referrals provided where appropriate

Across All Programmes

Standards applied to every piece

Secure Storage During Work

Every piece is stored in a labelled tray in a controlled-humidity cabinet for the duration of its time with the studio. Owners receive a reference number at drop-off.

Scope Agreed Before Work Begins

No work proceeds until scope and price are confirmed by the owner. Changes discovered during assessment are discussed before any additional work is undertaken.

Calibre-Appropriate Materials

Lubricants and cleaning solvents are matched to each movement type. No generic substitutions are applied where calibre-specific references are available.

Component Retention

Components removed during conservation work are retained and documented. Nothing is discarded without the owner's awareness.

Data Handled with Care

Owner contact details and piece information are used solely for service purposes and handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Timely Communication

Written enquiries receive a response within two working days. Owners are contacted when their piece is ready, and collection is arranged at their convenience.
